Blue Mist Shrub Knockout Rose Sedum

The first full week of September 2011. After a summer like no other that I remember. I know that we've had it easy compared to some of the Southern states. I guess I should count myself lucky that anything is blooming.

Photobucket
The Blue Mist shrub, which is in the Spirea family. I love the blooms on this but it just doesn't put out the blooms early enough for me. Had more in the yard and took some out. I left two in as of right now but can't say I won't change that next year if I find something else more interesting with a little earlier bloom that lasts through the fall. That's my Sambucus Black Lace in the background. I do like having shrubs filling up the yard since it sure helps reduce cleanup in the fall.

Photobucket
One of the Red Double Knockout Roses. Both of them survived the transplanting I did right before the heatwave. These truly are tough Roses.

Photobucket
Sedum Matrona. Someone on an earlier post asked to see this again as the season progressed so here are the current flower heads.

Photobucket
Sedum Autumn Joy. I love the flower heads of Sedum. These are just pinking up but I find them pretty before they even do and love that Sedum's grow and do great regardless of the weather. The interesting thing I notice this year was that we haven't had the usual amount of bees.

Photobucket
I thought both my Clematis were toast. As you can see the color is about right for toast. :) We've gotten rain for 2 days and this one has new green growth on each stem here. The other it's poor little stem burned so bad that it's on the ground and pretty much non existent now. Don't remember which one this is and wasn't worried about the name since all you see is a couple of green leaves, so my hopes are that atleast this one will come back next year. I believe that the other one is the one I wanted most. I've heard others say that theirs burned like this with only brown leaves and the stems looked dead and it came back the following year. I'm hoping for the best and that next year will be a great gardening year.

Wow! These flowers are so beautiful. I have been roaming around my garden taking pictures of flowers. Today I featured pictures of my favourite red roses on my Blog. Take care and have a good day.

My Sedum Autumn Joy are HUGE. I must remember to divide them next spring!

Our clematis look much like yours. They'll be OK next year.

It's my hardy mums that I'm most disappointed about. They got leggy on me. In only have a few clumps that are going to flower nicely this fall.

Our white roses just keep plugging away with very little attention having been given to them. Such a delight!

Thanks so much for showing your clematis! Mine are dead, too, but now I have some hope that perhaps they will come back. I love the blue mist shrub. I agree it does't bloom early (mine is not in bloom yet) but for fall interest, I love the blue accent. Your sedums looks great!

Your gardens are still looking so pretty!... I love sedum too, and my Autumn Joy is showing just the teeniest hint of pink which will soon turn to red... wishing you a beautiful day my friend!... xoxo Julie Marie

I bet that clematis will come back next year. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

My SA Joy is the nice pink color right now that I like.
Unfortunately the bees like it at this stage, too. Last year I got stung walking down the garden path when my leg hit a stalk that made the bee mad.

I was just out trying to get pics of the SAJ, but the sun is casting shadows, so I have to wait for a few hours. I hope to post about it tomorrow.

Hi Cher. I have one Blue Mist shrub, First Choice. Mine had yellowed leaves at the bottom for some reason unknown to me.I like the blue blooms though since not much is blooming now.
Your clematis will probably be alright and come back for you.I thought one of mine was gone and it came back this summer.
Just gotta love those touch bloom cranking Knockouts.

I'm a huge sedum fan. I have them scattered throughout the garden. Like you say they come up year after year whatever the weather. As well as colour I think they add interesting texture to the garden.

Love the sedums, and the spirea.
As others have said, I bet that clematis will come back just fine. A friend accidentally chopped hers all the way to the ground, thought she killed it because it looked dead/fried/toast, and it came back almost better the next year. Plants are amazing in their ability to survive.

Cher, I think it must be a bad year for vines. One of the offices near where I work used to have evergreen ivy growing up the walls. Now, it's all brown. I'm hope you get more rain so that your clematis can get going.

Your roses are beautiful. The Sedum Matrona has got more blooms than leaves, how lovely! I hope your Clematis will continue to strive and survive, it would be interesting to see the progress of it's growth. Have a lovely day!

Hi Cher, nice to see all those plants doing so well in your garden despite the previous heat. And the Clematis is a fighter and a toughie :)

I'm betting those clematis will be back next Spring. Don't you just love knockout roses? We have a grundle of them here... such easy care for the show.

I hope your clematis will come back next year! And we can shear some rain with you next summer! Thank you for your advice about the tomatoes!

Oh, I do hope your clematis will survive. It's been so hot for you there.

My Autumn Joy is at about the same stage of 'pinking' as yours is. Isn't that amazing, considering the difference in our zones?

I'll post a picture of it, if I ever get caught up in my commenting! LOL.

Sedums are just such a great plant filler in the garden - i love the pop of color they give, yet it's just the right amount! thanks for sharing over here at Cottage Flora Thursday's! oxox, tracie

I think the blue mist flowers are lovely. It's nice to have some "late bloomers" in the garden. :)

This is just such a lovely series of flowers. Lovely to see on a rainy day down here in Virginia, especially with the thunder in the background. I guess I will have to be getting off here soon.

I have one of those blue mist shrubs, I didn't plant it and thought it was a butterfly bush! I have no clue where it came from!
I will bet that Matrona and Black Lace look awesome together, with Matrona's dark stems!
Can you imagine how robust those clematis will be? Now they have a cool autumn to put some growth on...

Your garden is still very lovely despite the weather. Good thing your Clematis is making a comeback. Perhaps it was only hibernating.

Will you be posting more on your beautiful dogs?

Malar said...

The roses are really tough and pretty too!
Hope the Clematis re-grow well!
Everything look good as if the weatehr is fine!

I am surprised you are removing Caryopteris. When the shrubs get more mature, they bloom earlier. Mine has been blooming for a month so far. I do have some raised from seed that only started blooming two weeks ago though. The bees love them and the blue flowers go nicely with so many other garden companions. Knock outs are hard to beat. They bloom constantly and are so trouble free.

True to its name, the sedums are a joy to behold, the roses definite knockouts. Happy autumn!

Hi Cher
You have some lovely autumnal blooms in your garden. I have tried to grow caryopteris 'Blue Mist' and it doesn't survive the winter, I really like the flowers though.

We won't be cooling down very much for another few weeks here in the desert southwest, but I am so looking forward to the cooler weather and my winter garden! Would love to have you drop by my place. Hi Cher,

Your blooms are still holding on nicely. Your Blue Mist is gorgeous and don't give up on your clematis. My vine has some "toasty" leaves too. Enjoy your beautiful sedum.

Hello again, I am going to have to investigate the Blue Mist shrub, it is lovely. I appreciate the info on the sedum plants, these might even grow for me. Thanks Cher.

We have a lot of the same plants in our gardens.

I love that Knock Out rose. I have a tree rose of that variety and that thing is bloomin' it's heart out right now. It smells soooo good.

Your yard is lovely - completely jealous of your new Paperbark. :o)
