Daylilies Lily Echinachea Sempervivum

Garden blooms happening in Ohio and holding up. The Echinacea and Daisies continue blooming like there hasn't been a heatwave. I'm sure after July and August they will be looking sad after the long period of time this heatwave will have been going on, but these are flowers that you can count on for all summer long blooms and do very well here. Each bloom lasts for weeks and gives lots of blooms over the summer, even more so if dead headed.

Photobucket
One of the Double Decker Echinacea for me this year. I really like having a few of these interspersed for the diversity and love the petals on top and bottom both and they are just as tough as the regular Coneflowers.

Photobucket
Some of the different Daylilies and Lily that are blooming right now here, either finishing up with their last blooms or just starting their blooms. I will really miss their pretty bright colors when they are finished for the season. Daylilies are one of those plants that grow no matter the circumstances in this area. There are so many color choices that it fills most requirements for most people.

Photobucket
The Lilium American Hope, known as the Tree Lily. I love the blooms on these. I wish they faced up a little more, but with their height you have no problem seeing these beauties and the bloom itself is huge. I moved mine last fall so they are only between 4 and 5 feet right now. They can get over 6 feet tall the longer they are left in the same location.

Photobucket
One of my container gardens which has some of my Sempervivums. The Hens and Chicks make great container plants since they will overwinter in them in Ohio without protection. I had to go ahead and get this photo since the center one is flowering. Once a Sempervivum flowers that particular Hen dies so if there are any babies attached, you need to pull them off and plant them if they haven't already rooted, before the parent dies. Have a nice week.

Nice daylilies!

I always enjoy the unique hens/chicks flowers. My collection of hens/chicks is dying out. I dug them all up a few years ago and put them on a piece of driftwood. I think they want more soil.

Maybe your post will nudge me into taking care of them this weekend as I tend to forget about them.

Thanks for the needed nudge! :)

Your lilies are beautiful! Nice selection of colors, here we have mostly the yellow and orange ones. I will have to check out Echinachea, the blooms are very pretty, but my favorite part is the length of stay! Have a great day.

Cher, these are just beautiful. Aren't there just a million kinds of daylilies?! I just have one type open so far, but the rest won't be long. I love that double-decker coneflower (I can't spell the other name). LOL. Have a wonderful day.

Echinacea and daisies blooms last for weeks? Worth planting them in summer!
So many varieties of day lilies!

Wow - I'm impressed with your tree lily - "only" 5 ft tall! Those double deckers are interesting, too. I haven't seen them in person - glad to know they're just as tough as the regular coneflowers!

Hi Cher
Your garden is looking lovely despite the weather.
I once saw hens & chicks planted in an old birdbath - the soil was mounded and they looked terrific. I think the birdbath had drainage holes drilled in.

It's time for me to be sure that I have some Echinacea! Every year I think I have some - but I get them confused with some coneflowers (or something) and then am disappointed.

We've just come through Ohio from New York where we went specifically to see some beautiful gardens in Buffalo. We had a wonderful, WONDERFUL time!

Hi Cher,

Your gardens are beautiful! All of those blooms...still waiting for my Echinacea to flower, hopefully soon.

All the Best,

Gor-geous!

My poor little flowers bit the dust. Too hot and too dry down here in Texas. It's hard to get anything to grow in a good year, which this year isn't...

I'll live vicariously through your pictures!!

Hens and chicks do pretty well here too, I've never given them any special treatment for overwintering and they keep coming back. I think I like them because they're so easy to care for.

Love the first cheerful picture! And what a nice collage of daylilies. Last year I must have been lazy while the daylilies were blooming and didn't get many pictures, so I'm trying to correct that this year. Many of mine have yet to bloom, though.

Wonderful Daylillies. You've inspired me to try again, even though they seem unhappy in my garden. I'll rework the soil with some good compost and buy Ruby SPider if I can find it here (Scotland).
