Acer Griseum Paperbark Maple Salvia

We've received some much needed rain. Not of much help when we needed it but did help before going back into the high 80's. I have started cutting back so the yard is already starting to look a little bare. Cut back all the Daylilies except Stella which insists on blooming again and a few other things. Still lots of work left, but it is showing a lot of empty space right now.

Photobucket
Acer Griseum, my Paperbark Maple. I love this tree. The bark exfoliates, which is where the bark peels and hangs there. Very cool looking. I really didn't intend to plant another tree out back but my family garden of Hosta will appreciate it. The Paperbark Maple only get about 25 feet high so it won't provide a lot of shade but I love the tree and wanted it. Being a smaller tree means it's slow growing also. I finally found one at a local nursery, as they can be hard to locate. I did not want to order one online since the branching is so important on these and figured I would get an ugly one.

Photobucket
Being a 20 gallon tree, I had to have it dug out and planted for me. My brother Craig on right came over to do the work with the help of Dave that works for him in home improvement. For you not following my brother go on by and visit at "Ohio Outdoors" blog if you have time. He doesn't have time to blog much but he'll follow back.

Photobucket
The May Night Salvia is blooming and giving some much needed color around here. Obviously this will need to be divided next year since it sprawled out too much.

Photobucket
And here is Salvia Sensation Rose also blooming. A couple others are also but those being put in this year the current blooms are very close to the ground and I just didn't feel like laying on the ground to try and get photos.

It sounds like a great new tree to add to the garden Cher. Your salvia's are still looking beautiful. My Rose Queen was moved this spring so it is just now starting to bloom again. I have to stop this moving of plants. LOL! But I keep getting them so... May Night has not done well for me. I think it needs more sun. Great more moving. LOL!
Have a wonderful week. If you like crafts you just have to go to the Backwoods Festival this weekend.

That is one of my favorite trees too! I have a small one in a container, waiting for me to decide where he will permanently live.
Interesting, you're cutting back, I'm still waiting for things to grow here!
Hope you get some more of the needed rain soon!

I hope this tree gives you many years of enjoyment. Is it one that gets really pretty in the Fall?

We planted a sugar maple a couple years ago and though it was about the size of yours, it doesn't look as nice as yours. I got it at Oakland Park, actually it's the second one. The first one died under warranty. Maybe this one will come around.

What a beautiful tree - and so well-shaped!

I really like the blue of salvia. Makes me think....I'm pretty sure I planted some but I must not have marked it. (Which probably means I've pulled up thinking it to be a weed.)

Hallo,
ich finde den Zimtahorn (Acer griseum) auch sehr schön. Vor allem die Herbstfärbung mit ihrem leuchtenden Orange ist super.

Your yard looks so tidy compared to mine! I also have begun cutting down, and am hoping to do a lot more this weekend if the weather holds.

Acer Griseum looks like a fine tree. I like the added bark interest. What color do the leaves turn in the fall?

Nice to have helpers when planting a tree, especially one that's 20 gallons.

To answer those that asked. Yes the Paperbark Maple does get fall color - claims are the brightest of reds. I will do a photo of it when it's red for all to see.

How nice to have another gardener in the family! I follow him, but didn't realize he was your brother. How nice! Love your maple. They are such beautiful trees. I'm so glad you didn't order online, either, and waited to pick out a tree that you could see.

It's good you get the rains. I am excited to see that tree showing the autumn colors, as i see the violet Malus purple Prince on your sidebar now. It looks like you have a wider yard now, and that can entail lots of more work to garden on.

I didn't see you take that picture. I do have to say it looks like it was planted perfect.

That's going to be a fine tree! You chose well! I have a coral bark japanese maple that is slow growing. It's finally getting a good grip and looking more and more promising. I was pleased to find a 2nd blooming on my delphiniums that I planted this spring. We nearly had a hard freeze this week...I'm glad it didn't happen...not ready for it!!

I was looking at a place to order Wisteria online - for some reason it's scares around here - but same thing - I was afraid that I wouldn't be happy with what I received. I'll just have to do a better job of keeping my eyes open when they go on sale in my area.

Thanks so much for joining The Train!
