Fall Color Hydrangea CrapeMyrtle Cotinus Azalea

Photobucket
Hydrangea QuickFire. What a beauty this is with it's Fall colors. I have 3 of these in different areas of the yard. This one is mostly red, one is a combo of red and orange and the other is mostly orange with a little red.

Photobucket
Azalea Red Dwarf. I'm still surprised I have the couple of these that I do since they really like acid soil. I keep expecting them to die at some point and won't be too surprised when they do, but the Fall and Winter color is gorgeous on them.

Photobucket
Cotinus Golden Spirit. Just added a few months ago so I am surprised with the Fall color, but happy to see it. The yellow of the shrub added with the red is really lovely.

Photobucket
Crape Myrtle Centennial Spirit. The Fall colors are stunning especially with just adding this in the Spring. They are being offered here so hopefully that is because it's Winter hardy and I've provided a small micro climate with the privacy fence to keep off some of the Winter winds coming out of the northwest.

Photobucket
Hydrangea Quercifolia Little Honey. I added two of these a few months ago. I understand they can be difficult to get going but have them on a slope so hopefully that will do the trick and they survive. They are a yellow oakleaf selection and should set off the area I have them in if they make it.

Hi Cher. Your hydrangea leaves are all so pretty this Fall. Good grief mine just turned yellow and fell off. LOL! I have seen that we are suppose to be zone 6 now but like you I am not so confident about it. LOL! I would like to try a zone 6 camellia though. I might do that in the spring. Have a great week!

I never thought of hydrangeas for fall color! That is cool. I have one pathetic azalea out front that I too will not be surprised to find dead some spring. Well I 'm glad you got some fall color in your garden cuz the trees sucked this year!

Cher, glad to hear from you again. It's nice to watch your garden mature through the seasons. I will be watching to see how your crape myrtles survive the winter there. Al the crape myrtles in my area froze back last winter. zone 6a.

Hi Cher, It was nice to view the fall colors in your garden. I didn't know that azaleas would color! Ours are the evergreen type. I have a couple of oakleaf hydrangeas. Last year the color was pretty. We should be getting some fall color in the next week or so. How is your 'Fireglow' Japanese Maple coming along?

Those are beautiful sahde of Autumn colours! Very tough plant indeed!

Sissy said...

I've never heard of Centennial Spirit, but I am excited to hear there is a hardy Crape Myrtle, (at least, hardy for you...)
I am going to do more research to see if I can't have it, too!
Gorgeous photos, Cher

Cher, I adore all your fall colors in your fall garden. It is just beautiful. You do a great job in your garden to have different things for different seasons.

What beautiful leaf colors!
We have rain here (Mississippi) today, and a lot of our leaves are blowing off the trees.

I've seen 'Quickfire' in bloom in different gardens, but I've never seen its fall foliage--wow! You have some beautiful fall color going in your garden.

Hvor har du dog smukke efterårsfarver i din have endnu. Her er der ikke mange farver tilbage.
Tak for kigget.

Gorgeous autumn colors! I have five hydrangea that need to be planted, and your photos are great inspiration to get those lovely plants in the ground! Happy GBBD!

Cher, I love crape myrtle. I wish I could grow it here. I see it all over the place when I go visit my family in New Orleans.

Travel With Lulu said...

I am fascinated that you have a crape myrtle - I was just thinking this summer that I never see them in England. Maybe they are here but don't flower much since there's no summer heat? Your photos capture the autumn color beautifully! XOL

You still have some nice fall color! Most of my trees/shrubs are bare now. But that's OK. I am ready to hibernate inside for the next six months.

It really pays to search out shrubs for autumn color. I am paying special attention to that for my big back area that is slowly changing to shrubs.

You sure have a green thumb Cher! I'm a total disaster with plants. The only things I can grow are basil and sage, I tried coriander but cannot! Beautiful azaleas, I didn't even know the names, I'm learning a lot from you.

You must be quite a bit south of me! We are done with fall colored leaves. I really like the looks of the QuickFire hydrangea. I had to look it up on the internet to see what it looks like blooming. It reminds me of my Pinky Winky hydrangea.
Thanks for visiting my blog yesterday!

What nice red fall color! I too have a problem growing azaleas (which you wouldn't think in North Carolina), due to my alkaline clay soil.

Wie wundervoll sich deine Ziersträucher verfärben. Die roten Blätter der Hydrangea finde ich besonders schön. Meine werden im Herbst alle nur gelb und verlieren früh ihr Laub.

Your bushes are lovely. I would like to have the room and skills to grow some. I did plant a few in my garden across the street, but have not figured out how to prune them, and they are funny shaped right now.
