Iris Heather Heath Lavender and Heuchera Zone 6

Spring is finally here to stay now and the flowers are blooming for the season. This is the time for Iris to show their faces.

Photobucket
The Heather and Heath Hill. Although I've made a few changes to this in the last weeks I haven't gotten a current photo, this one was a couple weeks ago. I ordered more Heather from HeathsandHeathers.com

Photobucket
The front side that I changed last year. The only thing here that is not evergreen are the Iris and a small grouping of Hyacinth. The majority of the rest is Heuchera, Lavender and I just this last couple weeks added another ground cover, which there will be two to help fill up the space to the path. I figure by season's end this should be pretty much filled in. The closer side of the path is mainly groundcover waiting to fill in. Can't do much else there since it floods there from the neighbors.

Photobucket
Iris So Grand on left and Iris Pagan Dance on right. I bought Pagan Dance for my beautiful Yorkshire Terrier Pagan. I love these two together. All my other Iris back here were divided last year and didn't bloom this year. I'm hoping they'll do ok next year or I will be forced to move them out of this dry area.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Iris Study In Black and Iris Dusky Challenger. Really like both of these, but Dusky Challenger is such a beautiful deep purple that it really catches your eye.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Iris Stepping Out which is a beautiful bi-color bloom and Iris Cemetery is vintage.

Photobucket
The Ninebarks with Center Glow on left coming into bloom and the other 2 Diablo in bloom. Waiting for everything else to come in to bloom here. Hoping this rain continues that we've had, nice amounts of it without any yard flooding so far, but I'm sure I'm hoping for too much.

My husband REALLY like Ninebarks! (We see them at the local Extension Gardens.)Yours are so pretty.

And it must be a VERY good year for Iris - or else I just forget! They are SO gorgeous. And I'm impressed that you know the names of yours. Mine were hand-me-overs and came with no real identification.....

They are all just BEAUTIFUL! I'm making a note to check on some Heather. Your zone is just a tad behind mine; is there a cold-hardy Heather?

Sunray Gardens said...

Hi Angie. There are Heaths and Heathers that are good for your zone. I got mine here http://www.heathsandheathers.com/ and they are great to work with. Check your soil ph before ordering though to make sure you are getting the proper ones to grow for you.

Hi Cher
When your heath and heather hill fills in, it will be an awesome patchwork quilt of colour - make sure you share a photo please.
I don't grow bearded irises any more - too much work with borers and dividing. I do have I. siberica though and a couple of patches of I. pallida.
My nine bark should be flowering soon, yours are covered in blooms, what a pretty sight.

Hi Cher!
Beautiful! Especially the heathers and heaths. Now I know the name of the light orange iris my friend gave me a few years back!

Your irises are lovely. After an exceptionally warm March which made many spring flowers bloom early we have had 6 weeks of non stop rain which has halted my irises from flowering thus far. Your garden is looking great.

What beautiful ninebarks! And that black iris is just stunning. Love the front side. I'm impressed that so much is evergreen. Very important quality to think about, and it will be just as lovely in the winter.

Love the spring flowers mine are about to go to summer.
They say I am out of free photos and must buy more space.

Very pretty! The heucheras are a perfect contrast in your border. I really like the dark irises. I'm a beginner when it comes to irises, but I love that they come in such a variety of colors. Your garden is looking just lovely!

HI, Very pretty! I have irises I was planning to post in my blog in the next day or so. LMK if you want chunks of any! Moved from garden center to appliances. Now I am permanent.

Keep checking Lowe's clearance carts as they put a lot of perennials there once they've bloomed out dirt cheap!

Your plants are spectacular, and it is my first time to hear of ninebarks. They look like lights at that far shot. The colors of the irises are also wonderful. I love your temperate blooms, which of course are alien to us here. Yes i hope you get only enough rain without flooding, hahaha!

It's looking good - isn't it fun to see new beds maturing? Do you have a spot for tall delphiniums? If so, you might consider 'Pagan Purple' just for the name. I have it in my yard and it's wonderful - taller than me when it blooms in June.

Gorgeous, gorgeous iris. The voles totally destroyed the largest of our iris beds.... I can enjoy them vicariously through you!

Ooh, I just planted 7 Diablo's! I hope they turn out great like yours! Do you give them any special fertilizer, or is it just a lot of sun that gets them to flower like this? y iris are blooming too. I put some bamboo sticks next to a few because they were falling to the ground! Your lavender and heather look great!
