Salvia Daylily Liatris July Garden

Garden blooms continue in spite of the extreme heatwave we are having right now, as well as most of the rest of the country. I've spent many hours this month watering. We did get a token rain finally the other day but probably about 1/2 inch and wasn't worth getting excited over.

Photobucket
I like this Salvia Blue Sensation and I was thinking it would be like so many and look more purple. You can of course see the blue hue in the photo and I'm so glad I added it to the garden as I really like it and of course like the long bloom period of Salvias.

Photobucket
The Daylily Austintatious. Bright yellows are not always my favorites but it has really been a bright spot in this extreme heat. Everytime I look at it I like it more and more for it's being different and cheery.

Photobucket
My Daylily Ruby Spider is just about done for the year. Figure the rest of her blooms will be finished within the next week or so as well as with most of the other ones, other than the few rebloomers I have. Stella de Oro is already sending up new rebloom scapes.

Photobucket
Once upon a time I had probably a group of 50 of these Liatris. I think the squirrels must dig them up when I've moved them over the years and am down to just a few. Almost not worth the space any more. Especially considering I can just put Salvia there and get a longer bloom time. The TarDiva Hydrangea behind it is blooming also.

I Love that blue salvia Sansation and it´s intensive blue colour.
Lovely daylillies especially Ruby Spider, it´s a pity that the pretty flowers fade in a day thow it´s so nice.
Have a nice day

Your salvia is gorgeous and the bluish-purple color is so vibrant. Just look at those Ruby Spider daylilies. Cher, your gardens are stunning!

Lovely blooms you have there Cher, especially the Salvia, gorgeous shade of blue.

I hope you guys get some relief from the heatwave (and drinking lots of water for hydration) :) Your flowers don't seem to mind the heat though!

I love that Blue Sensation, I have one at my front door, but it is sleeping for winter at the moment

I love coming to visit and learning the name of a plant, that way I know what to ask for at the nursery and not just go and buy "what I think" might work. Thanks, and I love that ruby day lilly, I want some for my yard.

Thank you for your oh, so informative posts. We've gardening novices here, and have been experimenting with wildflower gardens from mixed seed bags. Last year was our first and the garden was amazing. This year, we must have purchased an inferior brand because it was full of filler weeds! Wild to be sure - but no blooms really to speak of and such a mess! No hummers or butterflies this year, either, as promised on the bag. The disagreeable task of rooting it all out is upon us. Through your informative garden blog I'm learning names and faces of flowers - and tips on making better choices. Hope for next year.
Joy!
Miss Kathy

Love that blue salvia! What an exquisite color - it would go with anything in the garden, I bet! Your daylilies are cheerful, and I love liatris, but mine have disappeared, too, although I think mine were placed in too much shade. (gardener's fault!)

I can't grow liatris in my garden. They never multiply.

BUT, I have some in a whiskey barrel on my deck and they have quadrupled (at least) in two years. They are just beginning to color up.

I love your blue/purple salvia. It's a great plant--goes with just about everything.

I know what you mean about yellow in the garden. I am finding my big bright yellow daylilies to be a bit awkward. I keep looking out there and thinking that I don't like their harsh look. But, I am not going to dig them all out, so I will learn to like them! :)

Gorgeous bloom even though in hot summer!
Lovely Salvia!

This heat and near drought has taken it's toll here. My wildflower field looks like crap, with a few struggling sunflowers and coneflowers prevailing. We just got the one rain, unlike folks nearby who got 2 or 3.

I love the daylilies and also wish they would last longer! Stay cool!

Hi Cher, Those are some stunning looking flowers! Looks like the squirrels could have caused more severe damage than the grasshoppers.

Btw, my favorite would be the day lilies!

Beautiful flowers! I have that burgundy color daylily in my garden too. It just showed up last year; I have no idea where it came from. I didn't know its name, but now I do. Thank you.

Your flowers are absolutely stunning! I use to garden until I was so sick and finally diagnosed with RA, Fibromyalgia, IBS and had both knees replaced so now I cannot bend over or squat so gardening is no longer an option. I do have pics of my garden from years ago on my Facebook wall of pics. I am a new follower thru GFC and Twitte. Not sure about Facebook. There was a little box that said Facebook with a LIKE on it and I did click that but don't know if that means I follow on Facebook or I just liked your site?? I would love a follow back on all three when you get a chance. I will have to bookmark this blog so I can come back and wish my garden still looked this good! Thanks so much and have a great day blog hopping!

Wow!! Your Ruby Spider daylily is gorgeous! I have got to get some more varieties of daylilies. Talking about rain, it rained for 2 minutes last night, that's the most it's rained in 3 weeks. Thanks for visiting my blog.
