Gladiolas Knockout Roses Mums Heuchera

Garden blooms continue in spite of the extreme heatwave we are having right now, as well as most of the rest of the country. I've spent many hours this week watering. We did get a token rain but it didn't even wet the surface and wasn't worth getting excited over.

Photobucket
I love Gladiolas. They are so cheerful and Hummingbirds love them and head straight for them over anything else. These are the hardy Gladiolas that came out some years back and I thought I'd try them and they are hardy in my area. I especially love the pink one with burgundy centers. Mums are off to the right.

Photobucket
I had pruned my Knockout Roses back hard in May and a week later moved them to a different area so they could grow as large as they wanted to. We went into the 90's right after that and they really looked pretty bad after that occurred so I am real happy that they are coming along as seen. Not growing any but I knew they wouldn't since they are now working on their root system, so not exciting to see after what they've been through this year, but any blooms at all are a nice surprise and appreciated. Shows just how tough these Roses are in Ohio.

Photobucket
Atleast my patio pots are doing well, but this is the Northwest side so they stay shaded until mid afternoon here. Showing off with Todo Black Eyed Susan and some Heuchera. Small Mums in the left container. Want to see if they are going to overwinter in those containers this winter.

Cher, are Knock-out Roses a type of rose or is it the name of the particular variety? They are just beautiful!

I love glads too, but haven't grown them in a while. Guess why? I forget to take them out of the ground for the winter! I really should try them again. I didn't know the hummingbirds like them so much, and I like to feed them!

Cheers.

Your glads look great. We are suffering fromterrible heat and drought and watering just doesn't seem to help.

I love glads, too. I tried a path of knockout roses a few years ago, but they all died out. Looks like you're having better luck!

Those knock-outs are really tough! But your glads are gorgeous! We grew some this summer for the first time. So far we have foliage and some teeny buds.... here's hoping for blooms as lovely as yours!

The glads are pretty. I like that height.

Will you be putting the pots in the ground for the winter? I have had good luck overwintering a ligularia that way.

Love the color of your glads. Your knock out roses will probably give you more growth and blooms next year. I'm sure they'll be happy having more space to do their thing.

Hope you get some rain soon.

Cher, I am a big fan of knock outs as well. I have about a dozen and they take a lot of abuse and bounce right back with a good feeding!
Are your glads perennial, or do you dig up the corms and plant every year? I am too lazy for that, I think!

Beautiful Glads! Roses look good, as do the plants in the patio pots! We're still waiting for summer to arrive in Seattle area, send some heat here please.

Cher your Gladiolas are so pretty. I only have one and it is so old. It was a left over from a bunch I once grew and it is the only one that survives our winters. I cannot believe you have had no rain. Girl we had four inches in an hour the other night and I thought we were going to float off of the hill into the valley. LOL! Your Black Eyed Susans look pretty in the pot too. Stay cool.

Glad add such an array of color and are so easy to grow. And you can't go wrong with the knockout roses especially in areas where it gets hot in summer.

I lke the color of your glads and my knockout is about all that looks good in my garden now.

Hi Cher
Your flowers are looking pretty good despite the heat. We've been having the same thing here with tomorrow to be our hottest day yet.
The native plants are taking it in their stride but some of my other 'pretties' are about to give it up. We are on water meters which makes it too expensive to water anything except the pots and veggies - oh well, survival of the fittest!

You have a lovely blog and so cheerful. Your glads are stunning. Love the colors and they looks nice next to the mums. The weather has been crazy this year - extremes both cold and hot. Horrible winter for all you guys and then the scorching heat.

I bought a Knockout Rose tree back in May that was blooming like crazy, but since then, almost nothing. I finally moved them over to the east side with the other roses and fed them generously, so I'm hoping for more blooms. I thought these things were fool proof!
